Handsome William "Billy Boy" Arnold, a Windy City native, was blessed with harmonica tuition as a child by a neighbour who happened to be none other than legendary Sonny Boy Williamson the first. He made his recording debut on Cool Records at the tender age of 16, but his recent sides for the Vee Jay label, as featured here, prove that he has mastered the art of the rockin' blues.

Although they are known for playing traditional blues they are also adept at performing in a more modern style as these recent recordings for Savoy and Groove are testiment.

A supremely rhythmic guitar player with a whiskey-soaked voice, Lightnin's recent waxings for New York's Herald label have been well received by the rock 'n' roll crowd.

His allegiance with the Muddy Waters gang has now drawn him to the attention of the Chess brothers, who are impressed by his powerful singing voice as well as that devastating mouth harp!
