A Mississippi homeboy of Elvis Presley's, Gene Simmons was born in Tupelo and formed his first band with kid brother, Carl. A chance meeting with the Hillbilly Cat at a radio station in 1955 persuaded the Simmons boys to demo for Sun which led to the release of "Drinkin' Wine" c/w "I Done Told You". A fine singer with a cool line in hipster lyrics, Gene Simmons' time in the studio at 706 Union has also resulted in alternative takes of these rockabilly classics which we present on this
